In New York, Robert Kanter finds the options market just as thin, but he reports that futures are holding up. "What surprises me is how volume held up in the S&P 500 futures," says Kanter. "Before October, maybe they were trading 70,000 to 90,000 contracts a day - now that's down, 35% percent on a guess. That, to me, is a pretty good show, given the restraints. The "locals" - individual traders on the floor - "are probably holding volume up," Kanter adds.
